Dear Centralians and Friends,
Greetings from the campus!
CPU welcomes new President
The Central Philippine University family welcomed Dr. Teodoro C. Robles on November 3, 2008 when he arrived from the United States.
It was last September 5, 2008 when the Board of Trustees unanimously elected him to be the new President and it was confirmed by the CPU Corporation in a special meeting on September 18, 2008.
Dr. Robles hails from Leon, Iloilo and graduated from the Central Philippine University College of Engineering in 1964 as a Work Student. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering at Montana State University in Bozeman Montana, June 1969 and August 1975, respectively. Dr. Robles is happily married to the former BSN 1969 CPU alumna Angeles Antonio. They are blessed with a son, Theodore Robles who is also a holder of a Ph.D. degree in Psychology from the Ohio State University and now an Assistant Professor at UCLA.
Dr. Robles is the 9th President and the 4th Filipino President of CPU.
From CPU BOT member Carl dela Peña (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Dr. Ted Robles arrived last Sunday evening via Northwest and was met by Gen Magno and Dr. Joe Azarcon at the airport. I met him and his brother at the PAL domestic terminal for the 5:15 am flight for Iloilo and later chairman Alfonso Uy joined us and we took the flight together to Iloilo. As planned upon arrival we were met at the end of the tube by some alumni and the group of Francis Griño who was able to arrange for an entry to the secured area. At the baggage counter we were met by MANCOM Members Dr Pulido and Dr. Millamena and the staff from the Office of the President and our media center people.
The arrival was festive with the members of the faculty and staff waiting outside the new terminal and during that time "Central My Central" song was sang. Soon followed the motorcade from the airport to CPU Campus and the campus was decorated with welcome streamers for our 4th Filipino President. Breakfast was served for the welcoming party together with Dr. Ted Robles.
At 3 PM, Dr Ted Robles signed the contract and a short but a meaningful speech followed, and a festive merienda also followed. Majority of the BOT members and the Corporation were also present aside from the faculty and staff and the President of the CPUR and Atty Von Bedona representing the CPUAII. The speech of the president ended with a note when he said that his coming is not a job but his mission for CPU.
Dr Ted will be in Manila to personally receive the donation of Dr. Lucio Tan of P5M to CPU and some members of the BOT will also be present (Engr Mombay, myself, Gen Magno, Atty Bedona and Dr. Alfonso Uy).
I might be able to play the Video coverage of the motorcade and the contract signing during our meeting on Saturday in my residence. Please come. Kadyos, ibus, dinuguan, manapla puto and probably valenciana will be served and of course bayebaye.
