Assam Baptist Convention

Organization:
Christianity first took its roots in Assam from where it branched out to neighboring groups of people. The first missionary to the Nagas was sent from Sibsagar Baptist Church, Assam. The state of Assam is known more for its production of tea, oil and rhinoceros. It has a population of 22 million with Christian population of 3.32%. The history of Christianity in Assam is as old as 200 years since Krishna Pal, an emissary of William Carey came to Northeast India and set up an outreach station at Guwahati. Today the convention has a membership of 35815 with 324 Churches and 5 associations. The state of Assam is a mixture of diverse people groups and ethnic communities.
