Rev. Dr. Benjamin S.L. Chan

The Rev. Dr. Benjamin Shun Lai Chan has served with the International Ministries since April 1992. He coordinates American Baptist missions in China/Hong Kong/ Macau, India, Korea, Nepal, Philippines and Sri Lanka. Ben maintains relationships with more than 20 Christian conventions and councils in the region. The Baptist partner churches there have grown to a combined membership of more than 2 million. Ben also works with NGOs and foundations globally. Ben supervises International Ministries' global consultants, missionaries, special assistants and graduate interns of his region.
Ben was born and raised in Hong Kong. He received a B.A. Degree and a Master of Divinity Degree from the Chung Chi Divinity School of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; a Master of Sacred Theology Degree from the Divinity School of Yale University; and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from the Bakke Graduate University. He was ordained by the Calvary Baptist Church in New Haven, Connecticut. Before joining the International Ministries, Ben served as a pastor of the Community Baptist Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Ben is currently the President of the US-based Life Transformation Foundation, International; Chair of Board of the American Baptist Mission in Hong Kong; Co-chair of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Legacy Trust in India; a trustee member of the Philadelphia Baptist Association; a member of the Asia Pacific Forum of North America; and the former Chair of the Board of the Foundation for Theological Education in South East Asia. Ben is an active member of the Chinese Christian Church and Center in Philadelphia. Throughout his ministry, Ben has devoted his skills to share the good news of Jesus Christ in cross-cultural settings. He does this in a manner that touches the emotional, social and spiritual needs of people.

Ben's late parents were members of the American Baptist-related Mongkok Swatow Baptist Church in Hong Kong. Ben and his wife, Becky reside in Royersford, Pennsylvania. Becky and Ben have two adult children Phoebe and Jonathan.
