A fire destroyed 20 houses in Venkatadripeta slum area in Guntar town, South India on May 21, 2007. Dr. R.D. Prasad, the Relief Officer of the Telugu Baptist Fellowship visited the victims, and is providing immediate relief. International Ministries has provided an emergency grant to purchase rice, clothes, and utensils for the victims.
Dr. Prasad reported that âEURoeThe temperature in Guntur town is 45 degree centigrade. It is not known how the first house got fire but it has spread to the entire area within few seconds. Adding to this, at east six cooking gas cylinders have also been burst due to fire and this has caused lot of damage to the houses. There are good numbers of Baptist members in Venkatadripeta area that has a population of 2,000. Two to three joint families live together in a house.
