Garo Baptist Convention

Garo Baptist Convention , founded in 1867

The Garo Baptist Convention (GBC) is one of the oldest Church organizations in Northeast India which was founded by the American Baptist Mission. It is now running its 140th years since its inception. The Convention has a total of 290,540 baptized members. They are nurtured by twelve Associations with 134 mother churches and has 2,389 local/ sister churches under these mother churches. GBC is one of the six conventions under the Council of Baptist Churches in North East India. About 85 % of the Garos have embraced Christianity, the rest still follow the traditional Garo Religion called "Songsarek.
